Ah, the September issue. An institution in the fashion magazine world, setting the agenda for the forthcoming year’s style trends. Not that any of that concerns Vogue editor Anna Wintour of course – all she’s really worried about is knocking it on the head and hot-footing over to Flushing Meadows for the US Open!

Yes, the latest issue of tennishead magazine has gone a little Stateside stir crazy. We’ve got a visitors’ guide for those lucky souls jetting off to NYC, a rundown of the US Open Series for both the boys and girls, and an insight into the real state of American tennis from guest writer Sandra Harwitt. It’s not all bad news, she assures us…

Novak Djokovic and Maria Sharapova are among New York’s favourite out-of-towners, and both will head to Flushing Meadows with thoughts of glory firmly in their focus. Find out what the Serb makes  ofbeing a national hero, and gain an insight into the tell-tale signs that Sharapova is back in the hunt for major honours once more.

For you meltdown merchants out there, there’s a look at the fine line between getting fired up and exploding on court, while in the coaching corner Jez Green will have your footwork running like clockwork in no time with his latest drill and Wimbledon mixed doubles finalist Wes Moodie gives us his top ten doubles tips.

The gear pages are in back-to-school mode this issue. If you’re taking your budding Muzza to buy their first racket or the time has come to get your kid a more competion-ready stick, read our junior rackets buyers’ guide before you hit the shops – and do hit the shops if you can. After that, sit up straight and learn all there is to know about strings, one of the most vital and misunderstood bits of your kit. There will be a test on the material later, so no fooling around at the back. Is that gum?

Of course, as well as that little lot there’s all your regular features: the latest tour and gear news, rankings, frame-by-frame analysis of the pros, stunning pics – a Wimbledon gallery special this issue – and comprehensive Roland Garros and Wimbledon roundups in our unrivalled results section. So get down to your local WH Smith, Fitco, PWP and one of the many newsagents with discerning taste to buy your copy today – or click here to subscribe and claim a FREE poster! Do it! Do it now!
