Video: Behind the scenes with Heather Watson

Heather Watson

Statoil are proud to sponsor a talented young sportswoman like Heather who is just at the beginning of an exciting career

tennishead went behind the scenes with British No.1 Heather Watson when the 20 year old visited a photography studio in South West London to shoot a video for her sponsor Statoil

It was an interesting insight into the demands of professional tennis players aside from competitive play. For over three hours Heather was interviewed for a film, which will be shown at the Royal Albert Hall this week (December 5-9, 2012) during the Statoil Masters Tennis, she was photographed, and the piece de resistance was a session playing tennis in the studio with her serving captured by an overhead video camera, and improvising ground strokes with a ball fed by 8-year-old Mukhtar.

So, what was all this in aid of? Well Watson is sponsored by Norwegian energy company Statoil. As part of this sponsorship the British No.1 is supported by them as part of their Heroes of Tomorrow Campaign. A programme that is already successful among footballers in Norway, Statoil have extended it to the British tennis player. The Statoil Heroes of Tomorrow Campaign aims to support young talent in sport, culture and education.

Of her involvement in the scheme Heather said: “This sport has given me so much. Partnering with Statoil to support ‘Heroes of Tomorrow’, will allow me the opportunity to help other children get involved, learn to play tennis and gain some great life experiences.”

In addition to making this video Heather will take part in a coaching clinic with former British No. 1 Tim Henman on Friday, December 7, when the Brits will be on court to coach some of the youngsters involved in British charity Give it Your Max.

Give It Your Max, of which Statoil is also a sponsor, is one of the UK’s leading grass-roots tennis charities that pays for qualified tennis coaches to introduce and teach tennis to children aged between five and ten years old in the state sector. Henman is its patron and Mukhtar, who helped in the film shoot, is one of the players who benefits from the coaching offered by the charity.

John Knight, Statoil’s Executive Vice President, Global Strategy and Business Development said: “Statoil are proud to sponsor a talented young sportswoman like Heather who is just at the beginning of an exciting career. We hope that our support can play a small part in her future success and that other youngsters will be inspired by her hard work and commitment.”
