The world No.4 limped to a 6-0 7-6(2) defeat to Lauren Davis at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells – her first match since the Australian Open.

Azarenka, who revealed she suffered the injury in training three days before the unsuccessful defence of her Australian Open title in Melbourne, pulled out of the Qatar Total Open in Doha, where she was also the defending champion, and subsequently slipped two places in the world rankings.

“I wanted to play this tournament,” Azarenka said after her defeat in Indian Wells.  “I wanted to see how it is, because at some point you've got to test it.  It might have been too early,  but I wouldn't know if I didn't try. Š—åSo I think I have a lot of good things to look forward to.  I just need to work through a little bit of the rough time.”

Next up on the WTA schedule is another Premier Mandatory event, and Azarenka admits it might be too soon for her to play.

“I don't know,  we'll see,” she said. “It's tough to say because this problem that I have is something that is not so easy to get rid of.Š—å You know, it can flare back up very quickly.”

“When I'm on the court, I just want to try to do as much as I can, even if it's on one leg,” she added.  “I'm going to try to fight and give it everything I have.Š—å It's a learning process for me, something that I have to go through.  I just have to push myself through.”
