Murray triumphs in thrilling Valencia final

The British No.1 saved five match points as he overcame Tommy Robredo 3-6 7-6(7) 7-6(8) in a thrilling final at the ATP 500 tournament.

It is Murray’s third title in five weeks following successes in Shenzhen and Vienna, and saw him move up to fifth in Race to London.

"I know it was an incredible match," Murray said. "The tennis at the end and in the second set was high level. I played well at the right moments.

"I like playing here. It's a nice place to come this time of year. It's extremely warm outside which is good for the muscles, the joints and the mind as well. I came to train here earlier in the year. Good food, good weather and good people."

Following Rafael Nadal’s decision to end his season early to have his appendix removed, the ninth-placed player in the Race will qualify for the season finale at London’s O2.

"I kept fighting and it stands me in good stead for the end of this year and the beginning of next," Murray said.
