Hingis named Hall of Fame global ambassador

A former world No.1 in both singles and doubles, Hingis is the only Hall of Famer currently active after returning to the tour shortly after she was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2013.

The Swiss, who won 17 major titles in singles and doubles and is currently one half of the world's No.1 doubles team with Sania Mirza, will represent the organisation and will play an active part in its attempts to preserve and promote the history of tennis and to educate and engage the global tennis community.

"The International Tennis Hall of Fame is a special place,” said Hingis. “When you walk through the museum there, it's awe-inspiring to see all the great champions and memorable moments that our sport has delivered. I was honoured, humbled, and inspired during the time I spent there for my induction.

“That said, I know there are many tennis fans who may not be able to make the trip to Newport, and so I'm thrilled to be working with the Hall of Fame to bring the organisation's mission and message out to fans around the world in a new way.”

As the Hall of Fame’s first global ambassador, Hingis is scheduled to visit the newly-renovated museum at Newport, Rhode Island in July before attending Hall of Fame events in China and Singapore.

"Martina is a tremendous ambassador for our sport in so many ways,” said International Tennis Hall of Fame CEO Todd Martin. “She has achieved success at the highest level and has been part of great moments in the sport’s history. She is highly engaged with tennis fans worldwide.

“Through our museum and programs, the Hall of Fame works every day to preserve and promote our sport's inspiring history. We are excited to have Martina take on this new role to help bring that work out into the global tennis community through her participation in special events and our outreach programmes.”
