The Spaniard came from behind to defeat Mirjana Lucic-Baroni 1-6 6-2 6-1 and reach the quarter-finals of the China Open in Beijing, and become the fourth player to qualify for the eight-player season finale.

The Wimbledon finalist, who climbed to a career-high ranking of No.5 on Monday after reaching the final in Wuhan last week, will join Simona Halep and Maria Sharapova at the Singapore Sports Hub after Serena Williams called time on her 2015 season

“I’m very excited to have qualified for the WTA Finals in Singapore,” said Muguruza, who competed at last year’s WTA Finals in the doubles with Carla Suarez Navarro.  “This has been an exciting year for me. I have worked very hard this last month and I am really happy how it had paid off.

“Qualifying to Singapore is a great reward. I have great memories from Singapore last year playing doubles and this time I am looking forward to compete against the best singles players in the world.”

"I was really nervous before the match, because I knew I could get to Singapore and it was also my birthday," added Muguruza, who was presented with a box containing confirmation of her qualification on court following the match.
