French Open draw: Murray avoids Djokovic and Nadal

Djokovic, who is bidding to complete his career Grand Slam at the French Open after missing out against Wawrinka in last year’s final, could meet nine-time champion Nadal in the semi-finals in a repeat of the 2014 final and their epic semi-final in 2013 which Nadal won 9-7 in the fifth set.

Murray meanwhile, would not have to meet Djokovic or Nadal until the final after defending champion Stan Wawrinka was placed in the bottom half of the draw with the No.2 seed.

With two-time champion Maria Sharapova absent after her failed drugs test in January and Caroline Wozniacki (ankle) and Belinda Bencic (back) both missing through injury, the bottom half of the draw offers a opportunity for Garbine Muguruza, Simona Halep and Agnieszka Radwanska to win a maiden Grand Slam title.

Johanna Konta, who became the first British woman to reach a Grand Slam semi-final since 1983 at the Australian Open, will meet Germany’s Julia Goerges in the first round, while fellow Brits Heather Watson and Naomi Broady both start against American opponents in the shape of Nicole Gibbs and Coco Vandeweghe respectively. World No.329 Laura Robson, on the comeback from a lengthy wrist injury, faces a tough first-round meeting in the shape of 2014 Roland Garros semi-finalist Andrea Petkovic.
