Great Britain await Fed Cup fate
It's been a real emotional rollercoaster
Great Britain are one win away from reaching the Fed Cup World Group following an unbeaten start to Anne Keothavong’s captaincy
The Brits will face either Italy, Romania, Australia or Canada in the World Group II play-offs in April as they bid to reach the World Group for the first time since 1993. The draw takes place on Tuesday.
Britain won three matches to finish top of Pool C before beating Croatia 2-1 to qualify for the Fed Cup World Group II play-offs.
Johanna Konta and Heather Watson doubled up to beat Ana Konjuh and Darija Jurak 4-6 6-4 6-3 in the doubles after Konjuh had dealt world No.10 Konta a surprise defeat in the singles following Watson’s straight sets win over Donna Vekic.
"It's been a real emotional rollercoaster, but the way the girls performed today and throughout the whole week, I'm just so proud of them," said Keothavong, who saw her decision to replace Jocelyn Rae and Laura Robson with Konta and Watson in the doubles pay off.
"It was so tight, everyone was on the edge of their seats. But they fought their hearts out and played with so much passion. I'm so proud of them."
Under the captaincy of Judy Murray, Great Britain reached the World Group II play-offs in 2012 and 2013, but lost to Sweden and Argentina respectively.
