Rafael Nadal’s a fan, Novak Djokovic has been seen out on the course enjoying the attire, even Andy Murray enjoys a casual swing every now and then. And now you may even get the chance to bump in to one of the three browsing the golf section when Tennis and Golf combine under one roof next summer.
Our favourite sport has found an unlikely ally after it was announced this week that London’s hugely popular Golf Show is to become the ‘Golf and Tennis Show’ in 2010.
Returning to the ExCeL Arena for a sixth time on April 30, the three-day event will now devote a third of its floor space to tennis, with a host of activities planned and a range of tennis brands due to attend to showcase their latest products.
The event replicates the extremely successful Salon du Tennis – a widely popular event in Paris that shows off the best bits of Golf and Tennis under one roof. A whopping 175,000 people attended this year’s four-day event, just a stone’s throw from the glowing red courts of Roland Garros.
Richard Jones, Events and Marketing Director of the Tennis Industry Association UK is delighted that Tennis will get the chance to sell itself to the masses at next summer’s event.
“The Golf show has been running for the past five years, but we are thrilled that Tennis is now involved to beef it up,” he said.
Providing plenty of opportunities to pick up a racket and interact with some big names from the tennis world at the ExCeL Arena, encouraging involvement from both newcomers and existing tennis fanatics is the name of the game.
“There will be a tennis court on site,” said Jones. “It is an interactive event, all the major Tennis brands will have a chance to showcase their products, but it [the event] is much more than just shopping.
“There will be practice sessions, group coaching, fun coaching and plenty of entertainment.”
British Tennis members are likely to be eligible for free tickets to the Golf and Tennis Show 2010 by signing up in advance, while members of the public will be able to secure tickets prior to the event or on the door.
As soon as we hear more, tennishead readers will be the first to know.
