With a shock upset, huge hitting and and an early scare making headlines on day one, the World Tour Finals lived up to more than its billing at the O2 Arena on Sunday.
Home favourite Andy Murray got off to the perfect start, resisting a second set revival from U.S. Open champion Juan Martin del Potro to clinch a 6-3 3-6 6-2 victory and set up an intriguing Tuesday tie with Roger Federer.
The Swiss maestro looked out of sorts against Fernando Verdasco, but battled back from a poor first set to win 4-6 7-5 6-1.
In the doubles, Mahesh Bhupati and Mark Knowles comfortably beat Frantisek Cermak and Michal Mertinak 6-3 6-3.
But the upset of the day came in the form of Polish pair Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski, who beat defending champions Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic 6-4 6-4.
