The underdogs of Group B made an immediate impact on day two of the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, with an inspired Robin Soderling running through Rafael Nadal in straight sets 6-4, 6-4. Nikolay Davydenko appeared destined to follow the Swede’s lead in the evening session, but failed to make the most of his early advantage against a tired-looking Novak Djokovic. The Serb battled back from losing the first set to win through 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 and prevent a second shock in Group B.

World No. 2 Nadal now faces the tough ask of a Wednesday afternoon clash with Davydenko, having only ever beaten the Russian once on a hard court surface, while Soderling has earned an evening session tie with Djokovic.

Monday’s play saw another twist in the doubles, with Max Mirnyi and Andy Ram defeating Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan 6-4, 6-4 to dent their hopes of reclaiming a title they have held four times. Barclays ATP World Tour Finals debutants Lukasz Kubot and Oliver Marach pulled off a mini-suprise of their own, clinching a 6-3, 7-6(3) victory over double Grand Slam winning pair, Lukas Dlouhy and Leander Paes.
