Semi-final Thursday highlighted the very best that the WIlliams sisters have to offer on a tennis court. Their two very different semi-finals were a testament to the attributes that have kept them at the top of the women’s game for so long.
First up was Serena, facing a formidable challenge against the spirited No.4 seed Elena Dementieva, who pushed her all the way to match point before doubt crept into her mind.
But the younger Williams showed no such signs of mental weakness as she recovered to claim victory in the longest women’s semi-final in Wimbledon history.
And after that, blink and you’d have missed Venus’ demolition of top seed Dinara Safina in just 51 minutes. The defending champ made just one unforced error and dropped just one game on her way to victory and an eighth Wimbledon final.
