Location: The Puente Romano is in Marbella and is just 3km from the glitzy Puerto Banús harbour and nightlife. Marbella is a beach resort on the Costa del Sol in the southern Spanish region of Andalucia.

Getting there: EasyJet, Monarch, British Airways, FlyBe, Thomsonfly and Jet2 all fly to Malaga from the UK. It’s about a 40-minute drive to the hotel from Malaga airport.

Tennis facilities: The resort has its own tennis club (Puente Romano Tennis and Fitness Club) with eight clay and two hard courts, including a 3,000-seat centre court that has hosted Davis Cup tennis in the past. There’s also a pro shop, gym and weights room, paddleball, pilates, aerobics, sauna, steam bath, massage and cafe bar which serves light lunches.

Coaching: Head Coach Fernando Gill has a team of six coaches behind him who offer individual and group lessons for all standards of players, junior and senior. Video analysis is also available.

Eating: Puente Romano has seven restaurants to choose from. If Italian is your thang, go for the Roberto Ristorante at the Beach Club. Lovers of North African cuisine should try the Moroccan-styled Suite bar and restaurant.

Drinking: There are two bars in the resort and just three kilometres away there’s Puerto Banús with its bars, restaurants, outdoor cafes, shopping and nightclubs.

Sleeping: The 293 five-star rooms all come with a balcony, minibar, satellite TV and air-con.

What else? Resort guests can use the spa and the Dave Thomas-designed, 18-hole golf course at the Marbella Club, 15 minutes away. On-site there are three outdoor pools (one set aside for children). The Beach Club has jetskiing, parasailing, windsurfing and motorboat hire. If you want a break from the resort try one of the historic nearby towns of Málaga, Córdoba, Granada or Seville. Babysitting is also available if you want to leave junior behind.
